Thibaut Courtois stond in de derby tegen Atlético Madrid tussen de palen tegen zijn ex-ploeg. In een zoutloze partij hield de Belgische goalie zijn netten brandschoon. Nainggolan behaalde dan weer een makkelijke thuiszege tegen Cagliari.
In een zwakke stadsderby waren de beste kansen voor de rust voor Atlético Madrid, maar Courtois stond pal op pogingen van Griezmann en Costa. Bale en Asensio kregen de beste kansen voor de thuisploeg.

In een niet veel betere tweede helft kwam de thuisploeg toch lichtjes opzetten met nog mogelijkheden voor Modric, Carvajal en Asensio. De wedstrijd eindigde uiteindelijk op een scoreloos gelijkspel. Vinicius Junior, het 18-jarige Braziliaans wonderkind, maakte wel nog zijn debuut in de hoofdmacht voor 'De Koninklijke'. Real blijft samen met Barcelona koploper, Atlético volgt op twee punten.

In Italië ontving Nainggolan met Internazionale Cagliari. Het werd uiteindelijk een vlotte overwinning voor de club uit de Italiaanse hoofdstad. Supertalent Martinez opende de score voor de thuisploeg. Politano legde met een heerlijke pegel de 2-0 eindstand twee minuten voor affluiten vast.
